Results

Coaching and mentoring bring benefits and results that are both tangible and intangible.

Clear goals and objectives for the sessions are established at the beginning of the process. During each session, some time is also spent reviewing action and progress that has occurred between sessions.

Some questions you can ask yourself to check the impact of your coaching are:-

  • What benefits do I see from the coaching?
  • What effects is the coaching having on my work/home/relationships?
  • If I hadn’t had the coaching what would be different now?
  • If I continue with these new behaviours and routines, how is my future different?

Results for organisations

A model for organisations to measure tangible benefits and return on investment in coaching and mentoring is currently being evaluated (Dembkowski and Eldridge, 2003). Areas which an organisation might consider when evaluating coaching could include:-

  • the performance improvement realised as a result of coaching (performance review and appraisal documents could be useful here)
  • the areas of impact of these improvements on your organisation – for example:-
    • increased output/sales

    • increased personal productivity
    • increased team productivity
    • increased product quality
    • improved customer relationships
    • reduced customer complaints
    • reduced delivery times
    • any others that relate to you/your organisation (for example, attendance; grades)
